Your Northern Vice Chair:

“Bernie was the first candidate on the national stage that I felt was truly genuine, and wanted to fight for the people. I had never even put a political bumper sticker on my car, much less phone banked, canvassed, or donated to a politician. Bernie changed all of that and showed us what is possible if we join together.” - David Hildebrand

David Hildebrand is a Northern California activist and organizer. His political activity started in 2015 with the Bernie Sanders Presidential Primary campaign.

David went on to help out on a local school board campaign and canvass for Medicare for All, before throwing his hat in the ring for U.S. Senate in California to replace Dianne Feinstein. Though his U.S. Senate campaign was unsuccessful, through it he was able to connect a network of activists fighting for progressive causes across the state. After his Senate run, David got back to work locally, promoting Progressive candidates in Sacramento County, as well as Northern California in general. He canvassed for Audrey Denney for Congress, as well as State Legislative candidates seeking to replace Republicans and centrist Democrats unrepresentative to their districts.

Currently, aside from his Northern Vice Chair position, David is the Political Director for two Sacramento County Democratic clubs, Wellstone Progressive Democrats, and Environmental Democrats. He is also active in the local Sacramento for Bernie Sanders campaign, and assists with Medicare for All organizing and campaigning when he finds the time. David is a member of the Democratic Socialists of America and the California Progressive Alliance.

David works full time as a Legislative Analyst for the State of California. He lives in Sacramento, California with his fiancee Rae Vander Werf, Rae’s two Giant Schnauzers, Clyde and Aurora, and Rae’s snake GWNN.
